A Fast Protocol-Oblivious Source Routing Forwarding Scheme for SD-WAN

Abstract: To address the limitation of dependence on OpenFlow protocol,this paper proposes a fast source routing forwarding scheme that applies Protocol-Oblivious Forwarding(POF) technologies to Software Defined-Wide Area Network(SD-WAN).The scheme takes advantage of high programmability of POF and seals the complete forwarding path by reorganizing packet header fields of source routing.It realizes the packet processing algorithm in switches through the flow instruction set provided by POF,and uses the technique of assembling line in the multi-stage flow table design.Then by abstracting and repeating the same matching logic,the scheme decreases the number of flow table items in the whole network and increases the forwarding efficiency and expansibility of the system.An experimental POF platform based on Mininet is built and tested by flooding traffic in the environment of single link topology and multicast tree topology.The experimental results show that POF technology can achieve better source routing forwarding performance when applied to SD-WAN.

摘要: 针对OpenFlow协议依赖的局限性,提出一种将协议无感知转发(POF)技术应用在软件定义广域网(SD-WAN)环境下的快速源路由转发方案。该方案利用POF的高可编程性特征,通过重构源路由包头字段来封装完整的转发路径,采用POF提供的流指令集实现交换机的包处理算法,且在多级流表设计中采用流水线的方式。通过抽象和重用相同的匹配逻辑,减少了整个网络中的流表条目数,提高系统的转发效率和扩展性。基于Mininet搭建了POF实验平台并在单链路拓扑和多播树拓扑2种环境下通过泛洪流量进行测试,实验结果表明,将POF技术运用在SD-WAN中能够获得更好的源路由转发性能。
