Abstract: In wireless sensor networks, nodes closer to the base station are prone to die because of excessive flow, resulting in “hot spot” problem. This paper is based on ring belt model, through adding nodes to balance energy consumption among rings, which can reduce “hot spot” problem and efficiently prolong network lifetime. Moreover, the ring belt model can ensure minimum number of nodes for entire and seamless coverage.

Key words: wireless sensor networks, “hot spot” problem, ring belt model, energy consumption balancing, extra nodes
