Abstract: This paper presents EHAS, an effective hybrid algorithm combines Max-Min Ant System(MMAS) with Lin-Kernighan local search strategy. EHAS uses 3-opt to initiate the solution and Lin-Kernighan algorithm to build improved solutions. It also imposes Metropolis rulers to adjust solutions, which can speed up convergence, avoid local optimization and solve scalable instances. Theory analysis and experimental result show that EHAS outperforms other hybrid ant colony algorithms due to its ability to find the satisfactory results effectively when applied to the traveling salesman problem.
