Peer Review

Computer Engineering adopts the single-blind review model(reviewers are anonymous to the author)

1. Initial Screening:

The editorial office checks if a submitted manuscript satisfies the basic criteria, including whether it conforms to our aims, scope, and reader interests. We will also use the Academic Misconduct Literature Check (AMLC) system developed by CNKI to detect potential plagiarized content in the manuscript. If the manuscript passes the above screening, it will be sent to technical experts for preliminary review.

2. Preliminary Review by Technical Experts:

Technical experts will preliminarily evaluate the manuscript’s academic significance, originality, quality of content, and suitability for publication. If they think the manuscript is worth further review, they will recommend external reviewers in the corresponding field. Then the editorial office will send the manuscript for external review (peer review).

3. Peer Review by External Experts

The editorial office sends the original manuscript and supplementary material to two appropriate external reviewers (selected from the reviewers recommended by technical experts and by the authors of other articles in this field). They will give a comprehensive evaluation of the text in terms of its scientific significance, innovation, practicality, rationality of study design, and clarity of presentation. Returned evaluation results given by both external reviewers will be sent along with the original manuscript to a third reviewer (member of our editorial board) for a comprehensive review. All of the reviewers’ comments will be returned to the author anonymously and will not be posted along with the article. In this way, we ensure that the manuscript receives a professional and impartial review.

4. Assessment by Editorial Office

Based on the comments of external reviewers, the chief editor makes a decision regarding the manuscript, which may include acceptance, reconsideration after revision, review by a new expert, or rejection.

In the case of revision, we will email the author to revise the manuscript according to the comments displayed in the submission system. Within the time frame allotted by the editors, the author should submit the revised manuscript along with a detailed cover letter that includes a point-by-point response to the specific comments. Changes that have been made should be highlighted in red for the editorial board or reviewers to read.

In the case of review by a new expert, sometimes the author needs to revise the manuscript before we send it to a new expert. It may require repeated revising and reviewing before the editorial office makes the final decision.
