Abstract:
Both TCP and ICMP have been applied in measuring host connectivity, investigating the differences between measuring results of the two protocols can direct network fault diagnoses, network modeling and simulation. To compare this difference, the paper selects two host sets from Internet as probe destinations, and evaluates the experiment parameters selection for ensuring test accuracy; last it conducts comparison experiments with selected host sets. Results show that, there are distinct differences between the connectivity measuring results of TCP and ICMP. When measuring host connectivity, it can be more accurate by using TCP than ICMP.

摘要: TCP和ICMP都可测量连通性,了解二者的测量结果差异对网络故障诊断、网络建模等有指导意义。为比较二者的测量差异,从互联网选择两个主机集合作为探测目的,对测试参数选择进行评估,保证测试准确,执行连通性测量对比实验。结果表明,二者连通性测量结果有很大差异,TCP能比ICMP更准确地探测主机连通性。
